Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you might need to know about our farmstead and products.
About the Farm
What kind of farm are you?
We're a small-scale, family farm with a focus on humane animal care and quality products for our local community.
Where are you located and can I visit?
We are located in Wessington, South Dakota. Farm visits are welcome. Please contact us ahead of time so we can plan around the animals' schedule.
What do you raise?
Our farm is home to a thriving herd of dairy goats and pasture-raised poultry. Our dairy goats are raised with a focus on health, nutrition and excellent care, producing rich, nutritious milk used in our farm products. Our poultry spends time on pasture, allowing the birds to express their natural behaviors while contributing to a healthier environment. By raising our animals thoughtfully and humanely, we're able to produce food and products we're proud to share with our community.
What do you produce?
We offer a growing selection of farm products made with quality and care, including:
- Handmade goat milk soap
- Farm-fresh eggs
- Pasture-raised chicken
Every item is created with an emphasis on simple ingredients and traditional methods. As our farm continues to grow, we look forward to expanding our offerings while maintaining the same commitment to quality.
What makes you different?
We believe that great products begin long before harvest—they begin with how animals are cared for, how the land is managed and how relationships are built with the community. Rather than focusing on large-scale production, we choose to farm intentionally. We prioritize animal welfare, land stewardship and transparency in how our products are produced. We enjoy sharing our farming journey, educating others and creating products that reflect the values we live every day. When you purchase from our farm, you're supporting a small family business that believes in quality over quantity, sustainability over shortcuts and community over convenience.
Who should buy from you?
Our farm is for anyone who values knowing where their food and everyday products come from. Whether you're searching for locally raised food, farm-fresh eggs, handmade soaps, thoughtful gifts, or simply want to support a South Dakota family farm, we're here to provide products you can feel good about bringing into your home.
Dairy Goats & Goat Milk Products
What breeds do you raise?
We raise standard and mini-Nubian's.
Is goat milk easier to digest than cow's milk?
Many people who are sensitive to cow's milk find goat's milk easier on the stomach. Goat milk has smaller fat globules and a different protein structure that can digest more easily for some people, though it still contains lactose and isn't a solution for a true lactose intolerance or dairy allergy. Goats fed a more natural, foraged diet also tend to produce milk that's cleaner-tasting, which many people find gentler to drink.
Do you sell raw goat milk?
Availability depends on our state raw milk regulations. Please contact us for current details.
Why is goat milk good for the skin?
Goat milk matches your skin's natural pH, preventing dryness while delivering essential vitamins that help gently exfoliate and moisturize.
What ingredients do you use in your soap?
We combine our raw, fresh goat milk with plant-based oils and natural botanicals to create a clean, wholesome bar of soap. You can learn more here about the ingredients we use.
Is your soap safe for sensitive skin or eczema?
Our bars are free of harsh detergents, synthetic fragrances and chemicals, making them gentle on eczema, psoriasis, and sensitive skin types.
Pasture-Raised Poultry
Do you sell fresh eggs?
Yes, our hens are pasture-raised and lay an abundance of fresh eggs.
Why do pasture-raised eggs have a darker yolk?
The deep orange-gold color comes from carotenoids — natural pigments found in the grasses, plants and insects hens eat while foraging outdoors. A darker yolk usually indicates higher levels of vitamins A and E.
What does "pasture raised" actually mean?
Pasture raised refers to how much outdoor space and access to pasture a bird has — typically at least 108 square feet of space per bird.
Is pasture-raised chicken worth the higher price?
Pasture-raised chicken costs more because raising birds this way takes more land, time, and care. But, you get meaningfully better nutrition, better flavor and the assurance that your food was raised humanely and sustainably. Buying whole birds or in bundles directly from a local farm is the most economical way to access pasture raised quality.
Does pasture-raised chicken taste better?
Pasture-raised chickens move freely across open land, developing firmer, more flavorful muscle tissue than birds raised in confined spaces. Their varied natural diet — which includes grasses, seeds and insects — can contribute to a richer, more complex taste.
